Sales taxes collected in February in the City of Batesville increased six percent over February 2013 with the City receiving $330,216 as its share of the seven percent tax.
The City of Sardis’ share was down four percent as they received $24,165 as was the Town of Como, down 16 percent to $12,039.
Municipalities receive approximately 18 percent of the total seven percent sales tax collected by the state.
Numbers from Mississippi Department of Revenue indicate the amount given back to municipalities and not the total amount collected beginning with the state’s fiscal year’s beginning July 1.
Batesville’s year-to-date income is up approximately two percent compared to the same time in 2013 with $2,935,947 received. Sardis’ year-to-date figure is virtually unchanged with $218,149 received and Como shows a one percent increase on its year-to-date tax receiving $128,635.
Batesville’s Tourism and Economic Development Tax was down six percent in the month of March compared to March 2013 totaling $76,601 while it has remained constant according to year-to-date figures at $791,084.
A similar tax in Sardis is down seven percent for March with Sardis receiving $6,450. Year to- date numbers show a slight decrease of one percent with Sardis receiving $68,979 so far.
Other Panola County municipalities received the following amounts with percentages of changes as follows: Courtland, $1,122, -2; Crenshaw, $4,750, +8; Crowder, $1,430, -1; Pope, $1,679, -52.
Other nearby and neighboring communities received the following as their share of sales tax with the percentage of change following as: Charleston, $28,325, +5;
Clarksdale, $252,873, -1; Grenada, $340,803, -2; Hernando, $217,356, +2; Lambert, $1,489, -65; Marks, $19,553, unchanged; Oakland, $5,771, unchanged; Oxford, $563,627, +3; Senatobia, $177,172, +9; Taylor, $1,645, -14; and Water Valley, $34,807, -5.
The Department of Revenue diverted $33,224,142 back to municipalities for the month, a three percent increase over the same month of 2013.
