April 17, 2019 (Batesville, MS) – Young Professionals of Panola (YPP) recently received the Certificate of Excellence for the successful completion of the Tennessee Valley Community Livability Program. Panola County’s application was one of only eleven communities selected by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Economic Development Team. Tennessee Valley Authority’s service area includes seven states including sixteen metropolitan statistical areas.
The purpose of the Community Livability Initiative is to assist communities in sharing an impactful quality-of-place story. Quality of place has become an increasing focus to companies and future talent when selecting a new location and community in which to migrate. TVA started this initiative to help its communities effectively present their assets to prospective companies and talent that may want to migrate to their region.
TVA selected eleven communities in their service area to participate in the inaugural program and each received the same Request for Information (RFI) developed by the Newmark Knight Frank consultants to guide the communities’ presentations. The RFI instructed the communities to pitch a visually impactful presentation using maps, pictures and info-graphics that highlight several aspects of the community that would contribute to the livability or location attractiveness.
Upon being selected by the challenging process, YPP began work by identifying and cataloguing Panola County’s livability assets. YPP members then pitched our livability story to Newmark Knight Frank consultants and TVA’s Economic Development Team at a Community Livability Showcase in Nashville, TN last summer. Each selected community received a recorded summary of the community’s pitch with feedback and advice from the consultants on how to make their story more compelling.
YPP members are now using their livability pitch feedback, impact funding and participation recognition to increase the likelihood that our community will be viewed as inviting and vibrant by future companies and talent seeking new locations.
