A community celebration to kick off football season will be hosted tonight at the Batesville Downtown Memorial Park by Batesville’s Main Street program.
The Fall Football Frenzy will give fans the opportunity to meet players and cheerleaders from South Panola High School, Batesville Junior High and Pope School. The South Panola High School band will perform.
There will be a concession stand and the Young Professionals of Panola will sponsor a dunking booth. Scheduled to be “dunked” are coaches Trey Dickerson and Artee Smith, DARE Officer of the Year Mike Davis, Justin Pope of the Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition and businessman and Local Yokel Ricky Swindle. The booth will raise funds for the YPP, which offers leadership development and networking opportunities for local young professionals.
Supporters of the Tigers and Bulldogs are encouraged to wear their team attire and enter the “Most Spirited Fan” contest.
Copies of The Panolian’s new Pigskin Preview magazine will be available for purchase ($3 each).
The event is free and starts at 7 p.m. Those attending should bring lawn chairs.
Panola’s football season starts Friday night when all three local high school teams have home games. South Panola will host Memphis’ White Station High. North Delta will welcome Pillow Academy of Greenwood and North Panola will take on Tunica’s Rosa Fort. All games start at 7 p.m.
